Kampala. Employees of a popular newspaper were shocked to find one among them being unusually cheerful and happy on a Monday morning – a time when all of them where recovering from hangovers and rue the return of the working hours.

“We were especially shocked that it was Opio Jackson, who was talking tough when he was told he was to work on Easter Monday, but this Monday he was cool as the new Pope” Cathy, a software developer at Cage said.

At first the employees thought that Opio was happy because he had finally been granted the Leave he had requested for two months ago, only to discover that his request was denied by the HR.

“He even went on and thanked the guys in the HR department for canceling his leave application. In fact, he said that he’d even work on public holidays if management wanted!” Cathy recalled.

The usual grumpy Opio walked into office Monday morning, being the first person on point, and greeted everyone who came in after him with a smile as they walked in with a rather morose mood.

“I don’t know what makes people so mad about Mondays or worries about what the whole week entails. I used to be mad about that too, but I no longer am.” Said the cool headed Opio while offering part of his rolex to the office messenger who sneezed in his face by mistake due to the surprising offer. Opio instead put on a smile and stood up. He went to the infirmary and got some cough tablets for the office messenger.

“That cough is not healthy to keep without getting the proper treatment.” He said as he offered him a glass of water to swallow the medicine. He wiped his face and tapped the guy on his back and walked away to the bathroom to wash his face. The office messenger was stunned at the change in Opio’s behavior, who previously would have hurled all sorts of insulting words at the poor office messenger.

Unable to believe what was happening, the employees vowed and agreed to forcibly take Opio to Butabika for a proper check up. They believe that so much happiness on a Monday, could draw a wrong picture for the management which would think we are happy with everything and don’t need any increment.

“Too much happiness will kill him .. and also our careers, our plans for leave will be trampled upon, because they will assume that we are happy to work on even public holidays.” An afraid Cage employee reported.
