Kampala. A 28-year-old woman (name withheld on request to avoid being shunned by men) has been fined by a the management of a restaurant in Kampala after she failed to pull out her phone to either facebook or whatsapp despite spending over 3 minutes with her date inside the prestigious restaurant.
The restaurant authorities claim that rarely has it happened that a woman has not pulled out her phone after entering within first few seconds.
“Many women start using their phones even before they enter the restaurant or get out of their cars. But she was totally apathetic and disinterested in following this custom,” the restaurant manager revealed.
When our reporter asked the man she was with for a comment, he said “I am still in shock, I feel offended seeing her not taking out her mobile at all even as the waiter came to take our orders,” the man claimed, “I mean, women I have gone with for dinner start whatsapping, taking selfies and then uploading them on social media, and then counting the number of ‘likes’ for the rest of the dinner time. And here she was, hands akimbo … doing nothing!, something is not right here.”
A waiter at the restaurant told KiwaniPost that he gave the woman many signals giving her the benefit of doubt that she might have forgotten about it.
“You are at a dinner date now ma’am. You can you can now pull out your phone and ignore your date” the waiter is reported to have said, giving her more hints, but the woman didn’t respond to the feelers.
“Our supervisor even offered the company mobile phone in case she had left hers in the car and she ignored him” the waiter explained, “We tried our best and management is in no way responsible for this serious breach of social norms”, he added.
Having anxiously observed and waited for close to 20 minutes, the restless restaurant authorities reported this “suspicious behavior” to the nearby police station, following which she was taken in for questioning.
“She seems clean and there are no criminal records against her,” the Station OC told KiwaniPost, “But we asked her to pay a bribe fine of 250,000 shs for her release and then warned her about her future conduct as her behavior could bring disrepute to the dating world by making women with smart phones pay attention during dinner dates”
