Kampala: In a hair raising incident that has shattered people’s faith in the internet data sector in Uganda, a telecom company has created a record of a kind by not eating up customer’s internet data immediately after activation. The customer reportedly checked after 3 minutes and found the data still intact.
Such was the impact of the incident that unable to bear the shock, the customer suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed.
Kiwani Post visited the lady (name withheld with no request) who is admitted at a local clinic in Kyadondo. She told our reporter that she became suspicious when she didn’t receive a “You have used 98% of your data” message in under a minute. Her hands and legs began to shiver at prospect of a message popping up after 2 minutes. She began to sweat profusely and just when the 3rd minute clocked, her legs gave way and she collapsed.
“I borrowed money from a friend and bought 1gb of data. I was mentally prepared to lose 95% of the data to the telecom thieves company and had accordingly bought another 2gb in advance as backup” revealed the lady whose life is said to be out of danger by doctors.
Word on the street is rife that the telecom company in question has been blacklisted by UCC for such a reckless act. UCC fears such incidents would put pressure on other telecom companies to stop internet data theft and customers would start expecting same level of proficiency from them which they may not be able to exhibit.
“What that errant telecom company has done is unforgivable. We are united with all other stakeholders in the telecom and internet service industry in condemning such heinous acts. We are putting stringent measures in place to ensure it is not repeated in future,” revealed a highly unreliable source from UCC.
